We flew to Mexico on Feb. 24, after driving to Edmonton the day before, so we could fly direct. The drive and flight were both uneventful, but then when you arrive in Cancun, the chaos starts!
Everyone crowds and pushes around the luggage carousels, waiting for their bags!
After we got our luggage (I put air tags in our suitcases so I could track them), we made our way through the doors and right away there are people standing there trying to get you to get in their taxi. We were directed to a desk, which I thought was information and I thought oh how nice, but no, they were trying to sell you tours right off the plane! We respectfully declined, saying we just want to get to the resort and relax for a day before we make plans.
We had booked transportation through the hotel’s website, with “Coming2, both to and from the Cancun airport. Well…that turned out to be a shit show! The guys were in a uniform and found us, and told us to wait on the side (for what, we weren’t sure)…a couple hours went by, and by this time we were tired and hangry and wondering what the heck was happening. There was also two older men waiting with us by this time and they were getting impatient as well.
It turns out that the vehicle they were going to put us on was not road worthy, an old VW van, with no headlights. But they had no other vehicle “available”, even though we saw tour buses and other vehicles that were painted with their logo “Coming2” coming and going. By this time it was dark and raining…they decided to take us anyways. And by then we were like whatever let’s go, “Welcome to Mexico” LOL. It was a long drive-they speed everywhere! No lights, raining, hitting big puddles on the highway-fun fun.
They dropped us off at the resort and continued on-hopefully those guys made it to their destination in one piece!

It was late by the time we checked in-around 11:30 pm local time. We didn’t know where anything was and nothing was open for food, but they do have 24 hr room service! The resort complex uses golf carts, and modified pickups, some pulling a second car or cart for luggage that they call “trains”. You use these to travel around the huge resort complex and get to the pools, beaches, restaurants, and your rooms.
I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of local wildlife running around the resort! We were startled by a raccoon at the beach, but there were also many iguanas, coatis, agoutis, and birds! I said to Warren, “Welcome to Jurassic Park”, and with the bushes rustling and dark jungle, I wouldn’t have been surprised if a velociraptor jumped out!
We got room service for a late supper, and then went for a walk down to the beach. The stars were so bright!
The next day we went for breakfast at the adult only buffet, which was amazing! And I loved all the birds flying around and was amused that they came into the restaurant (which was open to the elements on three sides) looking for morsels to snatch! Later discovered the HUGE buffet-which was amazing! We ate there every day, even if it was just for a snack. I loved seeing the variety of food there! They have the most beautiful restaurants, which we found out you had to book in advance for suppers! They were all beautiful, and the variety of cuisine was just crazy! They all offered you a “welcome drink”, their signature drink for the restaurant that day.
I was also pleasantly surprised to find out they had live entertainment every night in the common area and shows you could book as well. Between the restaurants over the hotels in the resort complex, and entertainment, and beaches, you could easily stay for a month and not get bored!
