While in Mexico, we stayed at the Bahia Principe Luxury Akumal resort, which we picked randomly out of other resorts we found through Expedia. The reviews were great, so we thought, this one looks amazing, let’s do it!
When we booked online, we had no idea that staying at that particular resort gave us the chance to hop around to all of the resorts in the complex, including Si’an Kaan, which is home to the PGA Riviera Maya golf course, which we were told is #1 in Mexico at the moment.
I insisted that Warren take the opportunity to play. He has often mentioned how he used to really enjoy the game, and often played the course at home in the early hours before work…around 20 years ago. Plus-we were there for his 50th birthday, so let’s go all out!
I had planned to play too, and also haven’t played in years, but unfortunately the sunburn I had gotten a couple of days prior prevented me from comfortably moving to swing the clubs. So I tagged along as his personal paparazzo!
Luckily, the gentleman we were partnered with was a sweet fellow Canadian named Patrick, and put up with my nonsense, and even waited for me to get my shots!
He also mentioned that he was told that the water traps were home to alligators, and I was watching, but unfortunately didn’t see any! We did see a lot of iguanas, and beautiful birds as well!
We took the first tee time of the day, 0730, and I’m glad we did, because when we finished, it was damn HOT! It was a lovely way to spend the morning.
The golf course is insane! And perfect. We enjoyed the course, and Warren enjoyed his game! This wasn’t your grandpa’s golf game-everything is controlled by GPS, the cart controls your speed, and has a screen showing you info on your holes. Very high tech!
Would totally recommend this resort complex (just steer clear of the Privilege Club)! And as for the golf course: thumbs up, and five stars! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
